Funding Guidelines for Program Steering Committee

Below, in order of decreasing financial attraction to SEG, are the types of funding which should be considered by the Program Steering Committee:

  1. Full or partial sponsorship of a high-quality meeting with profit sharing. If the conference/symposium organizers have a good track record, the Program Committee should recommend the expenditure of seed money with the expectation of a profit in return. Relevant short courses, workshops, field trips or field-training courses could be offered.
  2. Partial sponsorship of a meeting with no profit sharing. No direct seed money should be offered. Relevant short courses, workshops, field trips or field-training courses could be offered as long as there is at least 50:50 profit sharing on SEG-produced offerings. An offer could be made for free advertisement of the meeting in the SEG Newsletter and on the SEG website.
  3. Partial sponsorship of an event without profit, for example field trip or field-training course. Small amounts of seed money could be provided with the expectation that it would be returned at the closure of the event budget.
  4. Partial sponsorship of an event without profit (or small loss) in a SEG-targeted area. Small amounts of seed money could be provided, but it would be preferable to offer short courses, workshops, field trips, field training courses, and/or free advertisement in the SEG Newsletter and on the SEG website.

Application Forms

For all the above, the following forms should be provided and, if possible, records kept of memberships attributed to specific events:
