Call for Mentors
SFT 2024 seeks up to four professional geologists to participate as mentors. Mentors share their industry experiences and perspectives with the students and discuss career tracks and opportunities in the field of economic geology. Mentors will pay a fee of US$1,750 to support the program, which covers eight days of accommodations and travel during the trip, breakfasts and lunches, and the closing dinner. Travel to and from the trip is the responsibility of the mentor.

Trip Overview
The Society of Economic Geologists Foundation, Inc. (SEGF) provides significant annual financial support for its three core student-support programs: Graduate Student Fellowships, Student Research Grants, and Ronald E. Seavoy Student Field Trips (SFT). The SFT Program includes the following elements:
- SEGF annually supports one SEG-organized field trip to major mining districts around the world by providing funding to subsidize student participation on the field trips.
- SEGF pays the bulk of the transportation and lodging costs for students on these trips, so that the personal costs for participating students will be relatively low.
- Field trips are usually held over a period of up-to ten consecutive days.
- Active SEG Student Members worldwide who are enrolled at an accredited university are eligible. Participation is limited to 15-20 students on each trip. Eligible students are encouraged to apply for participation on these field trips – acceptance is highly competitive. SEGF strives for broad geographic representation on each trip.
Trips are organized and led by SEG members with appropriate and recognized expertise in the geology of the mining districts included in the field trips, and who are senior in their career. Arrangements are made with the individual mines being visited for safe and comprehensive access, and to assure availability of mine geology and mining personnel to interact with students. These field trips are very popular and are consistently oversubscribed. All SEG student members are notified of field trip opportunities and application deadlines via email announcements.
