Sites to be visited include operating VHMS copper and gold mines in the Skellefte district, stratiform base metal sulphide mines in the Bergslagen district, and Kiruna-type magnetite-apatite mines in the northern Norbotten district. Also on the itinerary are examples of Sweden’s extensive mining history including several pegmatites, a REE mineral type-locality at Ytterby and a stratiform Cu-deposit at Falun that operated for more than a millennium. For further trip details and information on how to register, please download the brochure (1.64 MB) from http://www.mdru.ubc.ca/home/resources/seg/seg_ft/2007sweden_brochure1.pdf or contact the UBC SEG Student Chapter at seg.ubc@gmail.com.

CIM’s Exploration and Mining Geology Journal Announcement

Volume 15 (2006) of the journal “Exploration and Mining Geology” marks a major transition for the journal with a new editor, Prof. Jeremy Richards (Univ. of Alberta), and a change in layout, including a new cover.  Subscription information about the journal EMG can be found on CIM’s EMG website www.cim.org/geosoc/indexEmg.cfm.  The online version of the journal EMG is accessible on the GeoScienceWorld website http://emg.geoscienceworld.org/.  You can join by downloading and mailing in the online subscription form.

Pay-Per-View (PPV) for Economic Geology Available on GeoScienceWorld

Economic Geology has a Pay-Per-View (PPV) feature available on GeoScienceWorld. This feature is primarily intended for non-members and non-subscribers.  Even if your institution does not have a paid subscription, your colleagues (unfortunate in not being members of SEG) can purchase access for a day to any single full-text article available on GSW.  Many other journals on GSW also offer PPV – as an SEG member you may not have free access to these as you do for Economic Geology. To see which journals, and the years of their coverage available through PPV, please visit www.geoscienceworld.org/misc/journals_glance.dtl, and note the far right column. This chart shows which articles have PPV access, and which may have to be acquired through Document Delivery Service.  We anticipate that this feature will increase access to Economic Geology.
