The Society of Economic Geologists (SEG) Canada Foundation (SEGCF) is awarding fifteen $1,000 scholarships to support field or laboratory work related to a senior thesis in economic geology. To be eligible, a student must be either entering or in their fourth year of study. Up to five awards will be made in the spring (application deadline April 30, awards announced May 31) and ten awards in the fall (application deadline September 30, awards announced October 31). Decisions will be made by the SEGCF Awards Committee, based upon the quality of the research proposal and the studentís academic standing.
Any third year (spring application) or fourth year (fall application) student registered in a geology program in a Canadian university who is planning to complete a senior thesis in an economic geology-related topic.
Applications should include the following:
- studentís complete ID and contact information, including email address, phone and SIN
- a maximum 250 word thesis proposal
- an endorsement from the studentís supervisor or proposed supervisor
- a copy of the studentís undergraduate academic record
This information should be sent by mail or email to SEG Canada Foundation (see address below). For third year students, applications must be submitted by April 30 and for fourth year students, applications must be submitted by September 30.
Applications will be reviewed by the SEGCF Awards Committee. Winners will be notified by e-mail and cheques will be sent by mail as soon as practical after the awards have been decided.
Students are required to submit to SEGCF a copy of the abstract from their completed thesis along with a brief statement of how the award money was utilized. Students who fail to comply with the reporting requirements may not be eligible for future awards or other forms of financial assistance from SEG or SEGCF.
