The IAGOD quadrennial symposium typically attracts 400-600 delegates from around the World. The previous symposia were hosted in Salta, Argentina (2018) and Kunming, China (2014).
Porto has direct international flights to many European and some North and Latin American countries. The World Heritage historic centre and an extensive cultural portfolio make Porto an ideal venue. The surrounding area offers extensive scope for field visits and opportunities to sample Portuguese cuisine, including the famous port and Douro wines.
Geoscience is at the heart of the energy transition, where a very diverse range of mineral and metal raw materials will be needed to generate the new energy infrastructure. The demands on resources are already shaping the global geopolitical landscape, and the emphasis on carbon neutrality is already influencing the balance between production and demand.
