Collecting With Douglas Kirwin
Douglas Kirwin recently donated his rock and mineral collection, amassed over a 45-year career around the world as an exploration geologist, to the Royal Ontario Museum, to be used for teaching, research and viewing by the public. The collection includes samples from ore deposits, with suites of ore samples and fragmental rocks from over 100 deposits in 45 countries, weathered gossans over ores from South America, USA and Europe, igneous rocks with unidirectional solidification textures (USTs), specimens from the Kola region of northwest Russia, minerals from China, India, and Bulgaria, and gems from Mogok, Myanmar.
