Part 1: Fault Valves and Orogenic (Lode) Gold Veins
Richard Sibson discusses the possibility of fault structures behaving as fluid-pressure activated "valves", giving rise to episodic discharge from overpressured portions of the crust ("fault-valve" behavior). Fluid overpressure allows the reactivation of unfavorably oriented faults.
