Social Events

The SEG Organizing Committee invites you to explore Whistler’s venues and enjoy Canadian hospitality during the Social Events. Each day offers an occasion to relax and celebrate with colleagues and friends.

Tickets may be available on site, depending on availability. All Social Events are subject to minimum and maximum numbers.

Tuesday, September 24th – Welcome Reception

Venue: Whistler Conference Centre
Time: 17:30 – 19:00
Cost: Complimentary for Conference Participants, Guest tickets: $30 per person

SEG 2013 officially begins with the Welcome Reception held in the Exhibit Hall of the Conference Centre. The Reception is an opportunity to connect and network with your fellow conference participants and enjoy appetizers, and wine and beer from British Columbia. This is also a great opportunity to meet up with old friends and head out for dinner at one of the many fabulous Whistler restaurants following the reception.

Wednesday, September 25th – Poster Happy Hour 

Venue: Whistler Conference Centre

Come and network with Poster Presenters and Conference Participants in an informal setting while perusing the Posters on display. Posters are only on display for one day each at the Conference so be sure not to miss this opportunity.

Wednesday, September 25th – SEG Awards Dinner

Venue: Whistler Conference Centre
Time: 19:00 – Reception, 19:30 – Dinner served
Cost: $75 per person. Tickets can be purchased for Conference participants and a guest.

The Awards Dinner will feature presentations of the SEG’s prestigious awards, including the Penrose Gold Medal, the SEG Silver Medal, the Waldemar Lindgren Award, the Ralph W. Marsden Award, the Brian J. Skinner Award, the Traveling Lecturer Awards and the Honorary Fellowship Awards.

Thursday, September 26th – SEG Special Event - SOLD OUT

Venue: Brewhouse, – the Brewhouse is short ten minute walk from the Conference Centre. 4355 Blackcomb Way (near the Fire Hall), Whistler.
Time: 18:30 – 22:00
Cost: $49 per person; $25 for students. Tickets can be purchased for Conference participants and guests. Student tickets are limited.

Join us to celebrate the contributions made by the “Giants in the Industry”. An opportunity for tomorrow’s leaders to meet those that have shaped and guided the industry over the past thirty years. This will be a relaxed and informal evening, sampling Canadian wines and the Brewhouse’s own handcrafted ales and lagers which are brewed onsite, while a reception style dinner is served.

The Student Networking Event is an opportunity to connect with other students and professionals from BHP Billiton about geoscience career opportunities, technical best practice and industry trends.

Friday, September 27th – Farewell Social Event

Venue: Garibaldi Lift Company (GLC). The GLC is a short ten minute walk from the Conference Centre, 4165 Springs Lane Whistler
Time: 17:35 – 20:00
Cost: $49 per person. Tickets can be purchased for Conference participants and a guest.

The Farewell Social Event is a chance to unwind and celebrate the end of a successful conference. The GLC is located above the Whistler Gondola building, overlooking mountain bike downhillers charging full throttle from the Whistler Mountain Bike Park. Traditional Canadian pub style appetizers will be served and a wide variety of local and international beers and wines will be available.
