Abstract Submission

 

Abstract submission is closed.

Abstracts were invited within the three topics in eight technical sessions over three days, as well as daily poster displays:

  1. Global View – Tectonics, Terranes and Metallogeny
  2. Regional View – Metallogenic Provinces and Belts
  3. Deposit View – Discovery

Each of these three topics is broken down into the following subject areas:

  1. Global View – Tectonics, Terranes and Metallogeny
    • Tectonics, Terranes and Metallogeny: New and developing concepts in tectonics, petrology and terrane paleogeography, and implications for Metallogeny
    • Arc Terranes: Petrology and metallogeny of arc terranes and implications for copper-molybdenum-gold-silver mineralization
  2.  Regional View – Metallogenic provinces and belts
    • Regional Metallogeny – classic districts: New ideas for deposits in specific metallogenic environments such as the arc terranes of British Columbia, Yukon and Alaska, the Great Basin, Nevada, and other distinct provinces
    • Regional Metallogeny – Western North America: New regional concepts and emerging districts from Alaska to Mexico
    • Regional Metallogeny – the Continental Margin: Alaska to Mexico; regional setting and controls in the continental margin for copper, molybdenum, zinc, lead, silver, gold, tin, tungsten and other commodities
    • Regional Metallogeny – China, Russia and Mongolia; developing understanding of established and emerging regions hosting major deposits
  3. Deposit View – Discovery
    • Exploration, Discovery and Deposits: Exploration strategy and new discoveries in the region, emerging discovery plays, exploration technologies and lessons for the future

Posters

SEG 2013 will utilize both physical (printed) posters as well e-posters, and poster presenters will be requested to create an e-poster as well as bring a physical poster with them for display on one day of the conference. What is an e-poster? In concept it is much like a conventional paper poster, except that it is displayed on a large screen HDTV rather than a poster board. The poster viewer stands in front of the screen, and uses a mouse driven search and menu system to find and view the posters. E-posters have the added advantage of being dynamic, so images can be enlarged, and audio, video and slide slows can be incorporated. Instructions will be provided to all poster presenters on preparing and submitting an e-poster.

Abstract Guidelines

 Abstracts should be no more than 500 words in length, not including the title, author names or affiliations. Before beginning the submission process prepare your abstract in a word processing software such as MS Word, WordPerfect, or a text editor such as MS Write. Do not use presentation software such as PowerPoint. Your abstract must be in English. You may incorporate a data table in your abstract with a half a page maximum; the table or figure counts as 50 words against your 500 word total. The abstract submission deadline is April 1, 2013. The results of the review process will be available by June 2013. The submitting author will be notified by email.

Abstracts must be submitted in English. Researchers are limited to presenting two abstracts per researcher during the Conference program (including oral sessions and posters). If the author wishes to submit more than two (2) abstracts, they can and should be submitted by another researcher as part of the investigation team. Abstracts will be accepted for oral presentations or poster. Posters will be on display for one day during the conference, the day being based on the topic of the poster consistent with the thematic sessions.  Posters will also be available as a digital poster for viewing at any time throughout the conference. Authors receiving a poster display must be prepared to bring their poster to the conference, as well as prepare a digital poster (guidelines will be provided) prior to the conference.  Poster sessions are a critical part of the conference.

Submission of an abstract acknowledges the author’s consent to the following:

  • If accepted, your abstract will be published in a conference publication that will be provided to conference attendees and also be made available for sale to SEG members.
  • If accepted, a minimum of one author must register for the conference and present the abstract either as an oral presentation or as a poster.
  • Oral presentations may be recorded and made available for viewing to SEG members or to the general public, either at no cost or for a fee paid to SEG.
  • Digital posters may be made available for viewing to SEG members or to the general public, either at no cost or for a fee paid to SEG.

SEG 2013 Policies on Abstract Submission and Acceptance

Policy Statement: This policy is intended to support the broadest number of contributors to participate in the Conference program. Any contributor who is submitting an abstract must be a member of the research/investigation/work team. Contributors are limited to presenting two abstracts per person during the Conference program (including oral sessions and abstract posters). Abstracts may be submitted by other contributors on the research/investigation/work team (that is, other than the principal investigator or presenting researcher).

There is no limit to the number of times that a researcher’s name may appear as a member of a team of investigators on abstracts submitted to the conference. In cases where a researcher is involved in more than two abstracts or studies submitted for the Conference program, that researcher may be listed as the presenter only twice (oral session or abstract poster).

Exceptions to this policy may be considered on a case-by-case basis where in the opinion of the Conference Technical Committee, such an exception may enhance the Conference program and/or knowledge exchange. All decisions of the Conference Technical Committee are final.

Abstract Review Process

All submitted abstracts will be reviewed by at least three reviewers. Notification of abstract acceptance or rejection will be sent in the first week of June 2013. Authors whose abstracts have been accepted will receive instructions for the presentation of their abstract. Only the corresponding author will receive mail concerning the abstract and is responsible for informing all co-authors of the status of the abstract.

Presenting Author Registration Information

Presenting Authors must register to attend the SEG 2013 Conference. If you are not registered by the Presenting Author registration deadline your abstract may not be included in the final program. Take advantage of early bird conference rates by visiting the Registration section of the SEG 2013 Website. The Presenting Author registration deadline is July 31, 2013.

Student Support

SEG student members whose abstract is accepted are eligible to apply for financial support to attend the conference.  Support will consist of accommodation in Whistler (shared with other students) plus funds to assist with travel. The amount of travel support will vary by region. Applications for student support will be made when submitting an abstract. Not all students whose abstract is accepted will receive support. Proof of studentship may be required. Financial assistance will be at the discretion of the SEG 2013 Organizing Committee and subject to available funds.
