About the Showcase

The SEG Student Showcase 2020 shines a spotlight on our student members, giving them the opportunity to present their innovative research to the global community of economic geologists.

SEG Student Members who submitted abstracts to the postponed SEG 2020 VisionConference in Whistler were invited to prepare short, 5-minute, pre-recorded presentations.

Pre-recorded videos and slide decks (PDF) will be uploaded to the SEG Student Showcase 2020 event page and made available to registrants beginning mid-day Monday, November 9, 2020 (MST). Registrants can view and chat with presenters during the event.

The program features two live events with geological debates and an award ceremony to recognize the top three student presentations.

Zoom and Vimeo will be used; please check compatibility with your country.

Live Geological Debates

On Thursday, November 19, 2020, two live debates will be held discussing the questions "Do we need ore deposit models?" and "What is the role of boots-on-the-ground fieldwork in modern exploration?". Participants in each debate include a student, early career professional, and seasoned veteran.

Each live event will run for ~2 hours. The debate will be recorded and made available to registrants until Friday, December 4, 2020.

Zoom and Vimeo will be used; please check compatibility with your country.

Awards

Presentations will be reviewed by a panel of judges based on scientific content, presentation quality, and presenter's knowledge on the subject. Cash prizes will be awarded following the first live debate for the top three presentations.
