Description

This one-day workshop is designed for exploration geologists to illustrate some of the practical aspects of interpreting breccia textures based on field observations. The workshop format comprises a series of lectures discussing various types of intrusion-related breccias associated with base and precious metal ore deposits, supplemented by generous time for reviewing and interpreting multiple suites of remarkable hand specimens at the Royal Ontario Museum's mineral classroom.

Workshop lectures and specimen investigation will focus on tourmaline breccia pipes, porphyry copper deposits, unidirectional solidification textures, diatreme breccias, and magmatic-hydrothermal transition ore deposits from around the world. Emphasis will be placed on the application of field observations and the investigation of rock samples.

Participants will have the unique opportunity to discuss, investigate, and photograph a wide variety of relevant specimens from the Royal Ontario Museum's Kirwin Collection during the workshop.

This workshop is designed for advanced students to experienced professionals within exploration geology, and anyone looking to broaden their understanding of the more practical aspects of interpreting breccia textures.
