The Society of Economic Geologists (SEG) is a global organization advancing the science, discovery, and responsible development of mineral resources for geoscientists and related professionals from industry, academia, and government. SEG fosters collaboration, knowledge sharing, and mentorship across the economic geology community.

Membership offers access to a broad professional network, career development resources including SEG's renowned journal, Economic Geology®, plus courses, field trips, and conferences. Qualifications

Open to students enrolled full-time in earth science at a degree-granting college or university at the undergraduate or graduate level. SEG Student Member status can be no longer than four years for a Master's degree (including undergraduate) and four years for a Ph.D. degree, a cumulative maximum of eight years over the course of academic studies. All memberships are based on a calendar year from January 1 – December 31.

Before you begin the application, be sure to have your:

  • Valid credit card
  • Employment/education history
  • Valid Proof of Enrollment (PoE) document - PoE guidelines

Completed applications will be reviewed by SEG Member Services.

Application for Student Membership

All paid applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis by the membership department. After approval and activation, a confirmation email will be sent. SEG makes every effort to review applications expediently, however, during peak times please allow for delays in processing. Please email [email protected] with questions.
