The Society of Economic Geologists (SEG) is a global organization advancing the science, discovery, and responsible development of mineral resources for geoscientists and related professionals from industry, academia, and government. SEG fosters collaboration, knowledge sharing, and mentorship across the economic geology community.

Membership offers access to a broad professional network, career development resources including SEG's renowned journal, Economic Geology®, plus courses, field trips, and conferences. Members also receive discounts on publications and event registration, with even further reduced rates and special funding opportunities available for students.

Qualifications

Open to all geoscience graduates holding at least a bachelor's degree. All memberships are based on a calendar year from January 1 to December 31.

Application for Professional Membership

All paid applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis by the membership department. After approval and activation, a confirmation email will be sent. SEG makes every effort to review applications expediently, however, during peak times please allow for delays in processing. Please email [email protected] with questions.

Retired Membership

Current Professional Members and Fellows may be eligible to renew as a retired member. Retired members have a rate of 50% reduced dues for Electronic-Only membership. To be eligible, you must:

  • Be fully retired and no longer receive compensation for professional work.
  • Be at least 65 years of age.
  • Be a current dues-paying professional member or fellow.

For those who meet the age requirement, an option to renew as a retired member will automatically be presented when you renew your membership every year. You may choose not to change your membership.

Concessionary Membership

SEG offers temporary reduced dues for members or fellows experiencing hardship and would otherwise not be able to maintain membership. A maximum of three (3) years concession is allowed, non-consecutive. To be eligible, you must not be receiving compensation for professional work and must have been a dues-paying member or fellow for at least one year.
