Structural Geology and Exploration Insights Applied to Orogenic Gold Systems
Description
The workshop offers a comprehensive review of structural geology concepts focused on structural controls on ore localization and the diversity of ore styles found in orogenic gold systems globally. The workshop aims to demonstrate how principles of structural geology in combination with additional geoscience datasets can help unravel structural information and improve exploration practices when hunting for load gold deposits.
The workshop will demystify complex stereonet plots, revisit concepts of sense of shear in brittle and ductile domains, discuss the temporal evolution of deformation events, how to maximize extraction of structural information from core logging and recognize patterns based on field mapping data.
From plentiful illustrations and field photographs, unpublished industry studies and software demonstration of practical workflows in 3D on analyzing structural data, the workshop seeks to empower participants with a better perception of structural geology aspects controlling ore bodies and more effective ways to visualize and interpret data.
Lunch will be provided, and all attendees will receive certificates of participation.
About the Presenter
Miguel Nassif
Terrane Geoscience Inc.
Miguel is a professional senior structural-exploration geologist with extensive combined academic and global industry experience in the field of structural analysis of ore deposits. Dr. Nassif has worked on numerous exploration projects and mines across the Americas and eastern Asia. His Ph.D., from the Colorado School of Mines contributed to a better understanding of the formation and structural development of orogenic gold systems. His post-doctoral research focused on the evolution and controls of Au-Cu deposits in the Jiaodong gold province, China. Dr. Nassif is proficient in field mapping, 3D structural modeling and data integration utilizing structural-geochemical-geophysical datasets to assist mining companies explore in various ore districts and across-scale. He is a reviewer for the Journal of Structural Geology and Economic Geology.
