Invitation to Submit

Abstracts are invited for the SEG 2018 Conference, Metals, Minerals, and Society, in Keystone, Colorado, USA. Themes are listed on the Technical Program page, and posters related to the general topic of economic geology will also be considered, based on content and quality.

Abstracts will be reviewed by the Technical Committee, with decisions based on relevance and content, with final format (oral/poster) and theme assignment at the reviewers' discretion. Contributors are limited to submitting two abstracts per presenter (one for the oral sessions, and one for posters), although an individual may be listed as a co-author for another presenter’s abstract. For those who present, their abstracts will be published in the online SEG 2018 Conference Proceedings. Notice of preliminary acceptance will be sent by the date listed.

Final acceptance and publication require that the presenter register by the early conference registration deadline. SEG student members must also register by then to receive funding.

Oral Presentations

Those selected to give oral presentations are asked to bring slides to the conference for the technical session in which they will present. Generally, talks should be 15 minutes, with an additional 5 minutes for questions. Presenters are also requested to provide PDFs of their slide shows in advance for publication in the digital conference proceedings. See "Formatting and Instructions," below, for additional details.

August 5 – September 15, 2018: Upload of presentations

Formatting and Instructions

  • Please read the Presenter Information section to learn about slide set-up and presentation rooms.
  • Accepted presenters are required to submit PDFs of their presentations in advance for publication in the SEG 2018 Conference Proceedings.
  • Submitted PDFs (20 MB maximum) must be optimized for online viewing. Learn how.
  • SEG recognizes that some changes may occur after the deadline and that the published record in those cases will differ from the final presentation version.
  • Presenters are required to bring presentation files to the venue.

Poster Presentations

Posters will be prominently displayed throughout the conference. Presenters are required to print their posters and bring them to the conference. They are expected to attend their posters during all dedicated poster-viewing sessions in order to discuss their work. Prior to the conference, presenters are asked to upload PDFs of their posters for publication in the digital conference proceedings. See "Formatting and Instructions," below, for additional details.

August 5 – September 15, 2018: Upload of presentations

Formatting and Instructions

  • Poster presenters are required to print posters beforehand and bring them to the venue.
  • Poster size is a square measuring 44 inches on each side (44" x 44"). This will allow presenters to orient contents as needed.
  • Posters will be attached to display boards (provided by SEG).
  • Accepted presenters are required to submit PDFs of their posters in advance for publication in the SEG 2018 Conference Proceedings.
  • Submitted PDFs (20 MB maximum) must be optimized for online viewing. Learn how. (Reducing slide dimensions, while keeping the same ratio, will help reduce the file size of your optimized PDF.)
  • Presenters must attend their poster during all dedicated poster-viewing sessions to discuss the poster with other attendees. View the calendar for Reception/Poster Exhibition times.

Speed Talks

Those selected to give speed talks are asked to bring slides to the conference for the session in which they will present. These talks are limited to 5 slides, with a 5-minute presentation. Please be sure to plan carefully to keep within the time limit. Speed talk sessions will be part of the technical program, beginning at 3:55 p.m. Monday and continuing with two concurrent sessions at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. Presenters are also requested to provide PDFs of their slide shows in advance for publication in the SEG 2018 Conference Proceedings.

Speed talk presenters must also present a poster and supply a PDF of the poster in advance for publication in the SEG 2018 Conference Proceedings.

Refer to "Formatting and Instructions" for both Oral and Poster and Presentations above.

August 5 – September 15, 2018: Upload of presentations

Policies

At the time of submission, presenters are asked to agree to copyright release and to acknowledge that they understand that, if the abstract is accepted, the presenting author must register for the conference.

Policy Statement

This policy is intended to support the broadest number of contributors to participate in the conference program. Any contributor who is submitting an abstract must be a member of the research/investigation/work team. Contributors are limited to presenting two abstracts per person for the program (one for oral sessions and one for posters). Abstracts may be submitted by other contributors on the research/investigation/work team (that is, other than the presenting researcher).

There is no limit to the number of times that a researcher's name may appear as a member of a team of investigators on abstracts submitted to the conference. In cases where a researcher is involved in more than two abstracts or studies submitted for the conference program, that researcher may be listed as the presenter only twice (one for an oral session and one for a poster).

Exceptions to this policy may be considered on a case-by-case basis where, in the opinion of the conference Technical Committee, such an exception may enhance the conference program and/or knowledge exchange. All decisions of the conference Technical Committee are final.

Policies on Abstract Submission and Acceptance

Submission of an abstract acknowledges the author's consent to the following:

  • If accepted, your abstract will be published in the SEG 2018 Conference Proceedings that will be provided to conference attendees and may also be made available for subsequent sale by SEG.
  • If accepted, the presenting author must register by the early registration deadline listed.
  • Final abstract acceptance will not occur until the presenting author registers for the conference and that registration cannot be cancelled or refunded.
