Student Day Course - The Role of Geologists in the Mining Industry: Examples from Planning a Drilling Program

Presenter: Benedikt Steiner (Msc Programme Director in Exploration and Mining Geology, Camborne School of Mines; Consultant, XPLORE GLOBAL Ltd.)
This free event is integrated into the program for the day preceding the main conference. Benedikt Steiner will introduce the responsibilities of and employment areas for economic geologists in the mining industry. Current under- and postgraduate students as well as recent graduates are encouraged to attend. A focus of the event is the practical skill set economic geologists should develop early in their careers. The event will comprise two online pre-recorded video lectures as well as a live online group event specifically discussing the importance of setting up drill site logistics and developing related geoscientific skills. Times are set to be "time zone friendly" around the world.

Whether they be virtual or in person, conferences can be overwhelming for students and young professionals. A virtual meeting "room" will be provided for students and ECPs to network, mingle, and discuss what’s important to you. The space will be available throughout the conference.

The networking event offers the opportunity to students, ECPs, and established professionals from industry, academia, and government to interact, mingle virtually before the technical program starts, and perhaps initiate a mentor-mentee relationship!

The roundtable provides an informal setting for industry leaders and participants to discuss and debate key themes that shape the present and future of the industry and reflect on a century of discovery. This is a two-hour event taking place on day one of the conference.
