Description

Theme 4: Circular Economy - Building Resilient Supply Chains with Reuse and Recycling

The global business community recognizes that repurposing, reusing, and recycling is essential to improve efficiency and profitability while arresting the degradation of the biosphere, and this is particularly true for the critical minerals supply chain.

This final panel discussion in our 2021 Critical Mineral Series will highlight the emerging science and technology of recycling vital components of the renewable energy infrastructure, including batteries and electronic materials. Panelists will discuss the concepts and evolving processes of retrieving precious metals from electronic waste, lithium from spent cells, and metals from old mining tailings. Focus will also be given to how current mining streams can be exploited for secondary resources and how waste might be used for carbon sequestration.

A reminder that panelists have been selected for their expertise in mining, materials science, and supply chains – as well as their passion for engaging with students and early career professionals!

Please join us as we close the loop on this series about the importance of critical minerals and we learn how evolving technologies and approaches are changing the frontiers of exploration and mining.

Additional webinars have been hosted throughout the year, exploring areas such as new battery technology, sustainable mining, exploration for energy storage materials, and climate change engagement. Please view them at www.segweb.org/criticalminerals.
