Successfully navigating the employment market and finding a position that best aligns with job seekers takes effort, skill, and intentional planning. This process begins with the development of a resume that represents the most authentic and best version of yourself. The first step is vital, as creating a strong resume will better allow an individual to stand out from competitors and advance into the interview stage. Building a strategic road map will also allow job seekers to develop valuable networks and communication pipelines that lead to employment opportunities.

Speakers Jill Nelson and Joline Lenz will share their insights and expertise as recruitment professionals, helping students and other mineral exploration professionals understand the merits of a strong resume and how to create a job discovery road map that will help individuals leverage their skillsets and relationships.

Jill Nelson

Genuine, energetic and driven manager who utilizes engineering, construction and operations background with skills developed through management, sales and business development fundraising for recruiting in the Natural Resources industries. Demonstrates a "leading by example" style. Jill has a proven track record of taking on a variety of assignments/responsibilities and succeeding. With strong interpersonal skills including project management, business relationships, regulatory and public relations, staff development, verbal and written communications, she is highly motivated.

Jill is a Mining Engineer who started her career with Shell Mining Company. Her first ten years' experience in mining, were spent primarily in coal, including project management and business development of new mines and/or expansions, operations, permitting, development of clean coal technologies and marketing support.

She moved into the waste industry for BFI, managing closure projects, EH&S, then into managing hazardous waste landfills at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal. She then returned to BFI as their landfill sales manager. This provided her over 15 years' experience in RCRA Subtitle C and D landfill business including sales, marketing, operations, environmental, health and safety programs, remediation, personnel management, contractor administration and budgeting, in both public and private sectors.

Landfill sales opened the door for Jill in meeting new people from different walks in life. Clients became friends and solid connections. Then, contributing to her alma mater, Jill spent three years fundraising for South Dakota School of Mines & Technology, focusing on the mining sector and Colorado and Houston based alumni for SDSM&T's first large multimillion-dollar campaign.

In 2008, Jill segued into recruiting in the mining industry with Downing Teal in Denver. In 2016, Jill teamed up with Lois Brooks to form Brooks & Nelson. Upon Lois' retirement, she now owns Brooks & Nelson and continues to provide excellent talent for her clients, matching not only skills but cultures and work styles. She is diligent in first learning a client's culture, strengths and areas of improvement. Matching top end talent with the right opportunity with clients is her passion. Jill also strives to provide clients with unique HR Solutions, complimenting Brooks & Nelson's recruiting services.

Joline Lenz

Joline brings a wealth of both leadership and recruitment expertise to the Brooks & Nelson team. As the former CEO of HS International, a successful Denver-based mining recruitment firm, she and her team placed technical, corporate, and leadership talent including the C-Suite globally. Her company was acquired in 2014 by MSI. With over 5 years of experience in mining, her career began with accounting and financial talent placement. Most recently as a Sr. Sourcer for Northrop Grumman, a Fortune 100 aerospace and defense company, she acquired new skills working directly on the inside of a company’s talent acquisition team. Joline recently co-authored Inspiration "At Work" – A Job Seeker's Resource Guide to assist job seeker's finding and landing a job that inspires them. As a creative intuitive problem solver, talent sleuth, and team builder, she enjoys helping clients excel.
