Description
Acting as a qualified person (QP) or competent person (CP) in the minerals sector bears great scientific, legal, and ethical responsibility. Geologists serving in these roles must typically be registered as professionals to meet certain international and domestic mineral reporting codes. Therefore, it is essential for both professionals and students to understand what certifications are available to them as geologists, based on their country of residence or employment, and appreciate the significance and benefits of this role.
There are many regional organizations responsible for developing and enforcing professional reporting codes, such as the JORC (Australasia), CBRR (Brazil), CIM (Canada), SAMREC (South Africa), and SME (USA). Several of these organizations have joined together to form the Committee for Mineral Reserves International Reporting Standards, an alliance of National Reporting Organizations. This webinar will clarify the different types of certifications that are offered and what types of memberships are available regionally and internationally.
The SEG Early Career Professionals Committee is hosting a globally diverse panel of speakers representing the Americas, Australia, Europe, and Africa. These panelists will share their valuable experience and insights related to obtaining CP/QP status and how these certifications can benefit economic geologists and enhance their career opportunities.
